Humpback whales make some of the longest migrations on earth. Migrating north from Antarctica between June - August, along the coast of Tasmanian to the warmer waters of norther Australia and the pacific islands.
During their annual migration, they can travel up to 10 000km. Humpback Whales are common sightings along the Coastal Towns of Tasmania. My home town of Scamander is one of those lucky whale spotting towns.
While their population recovery has been positive, they still face numerous threats.
We can all do our part to help protect these highly intelligent, majestic giants of the sea. Keep our oceans clean, stay a safe distance (especially when they are accompanied by young calves), and report injured, entangled and stranded whales to you local environmental agency.
